Car-jacking duo sought by police

Police are examining CCTV footage in the hunt for two robbers who threatened the drivers of three cars, before stealing two of the vehicles. Detectives have said that the thefts were "extremely unusual".

"Never before have I known offenders to target so many cars within such a short space of time," said Det Insp Derek Jones of Lancashire Police.

The men stole a silver Hyundai and a Mitsubishi Shogun in Barrowford, but failed to steal a black Range Rover.

The Hyundai was involved in a collision with another car on Fleet Street, Barrowford, before being abandoned in Nelson. The red Mitsubishi Shogun was abandoned near Nelson town centre, following the robberies on Sunday.

Police have said the men were in their late teens and early 20s, wore hooded tops and spoke with local accents.

"Fortunately no-one was seriously injured although clearly the vehicle owners are very shaken up by it all," said Det Insp Jones.

"All the vehicles have now been recovered and are being forensically examined and a team of detectives are viewing CCTV tapes and speaking to witnesses."
