Pedestrian in hospital airlift

A pedestrian was airlifted to hospital with serious leg injuries following an accident with a Ford Fiesta in Pasture Lane, Barrowford, on Sunday afternoon.

Victim Mrs Hazel Ellis (32), a newspaper production worker from Barrowford, suffered fractures to both legs. She was out walking with her husband, David, at the time of the accident. She remained detained in Burnley General Hospital yesterday and was due to undergo an emergency operation to pin her leg.

The driver of the car involved was an 18-year-old man from Colne who has not been named by police.
